Before hitting the road, I made sure to check out some of the iconic landmarks in Las Vegas, such as the Neon Museum and the Welcome to Las Vegas sign. I also visited the Mob Museum, which tells the story of organized crime in the city and its impact on the community. It was fascinating to learn about the history of Las Vegas beyond just its glitz and glamour.
Once I got on the road, I was immediately struck by the beauty of the desert landscape. The drive was smooth and easy, and I made my first stop at the Hoover Dam.
The Hoover Dam is an engineering marvel that provides hydroelectric power and water to millions of people in the Southwest. I took a guided tour of the dam and learned about its history and significance. The highlight of the tour was walking on the observation deck, which offered stunning views of the Colorado River and the nearby mountains.

Hoover Dam
As I made my way out of Las Vegas and onto the open road, I knew my first stop had to be the Hoover Dam. I had heard so much about this wonder of engineering and history, and I was eager to experience it for myself.
As I approached the dam, I was struck by its sheer size and grandeur. The concrete structure towered over the surrounding landscape, a testament to human ingenuity and perseverance. I couldn’t wait to learn more about its history and significance.

Hiking Trails near Grand Canyon
When I was planning my road trip from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon, I knew that hiking would be a big part of my itinerary. I am an experienced hiker and I wanted to challenge myself with some of the more difficult trails, but I also wanted to make sure that there were options for beginners or those who weren’t as experienced.
One of the trails that I would highly recommend is the Bright Angel Trail. It’s a popular trail, but for good reason. The trail is well maintained and the views are absolutely stunning. It’s not an easy trail, but it’s doable for most people. I would recommend that beginners start with the first 1.5 miles of the trail and then turn back. This will give you a taste of what the trail is like without pushing yourself too hard.
For those who are more experienced and want a challenge, I would recommend the South Kaibab Trail. This trail is more difficult than Bright Angel, but it’s also less crowded and the views are equally amazing. I did this trail alone and it was definitely a challenge, but it was also one of the most rewarding hikes I’ve ever done. The trail is steep and there are some areas where you need to be very careful, but the feeling of accomplishment when you reach the end is worth it.
No matter which trail you choose, it’s important to be prepared. Bring plenty of water, snacks, and sunscreen. Wear comfortable shoes and dress in layers, as the weather can change quickly. And most importantly, take your time and enjoy the incredible views. The Grand Canyon is one of the most beautiful places in the world and hiking is the perfect way to experience it.
